My Lairig Ghru hill race 2004

Tim Downie

This is a collection of photographs that I took with a disposable camera way back in 2004, back when I was thinner, had more hair, a greater propensity to pose with my hand on my hip and also still keen on carrying a camera.  Alas I rarely carry one these days and I'm sorely tempted to edit out the "hand on hip" shot but it's part of history now and I can't bring myself to delete it.

It's a great race through some splendid scenery and if I can ever stop entering the West Highland Way race I'll definitely come back to run the Lairig Ghru again.

Shot of the race start by the Police Station in Braemar (The famous Kate Jenkins on the far left with her dog)

View from the road up to Mar Lodge

View of my friend Andy's legs (on the left).

Andy demonstrating his "unusual" running style.

Him again, just before we leave the road for the trail.

Getting really scenic now (probably taken at about NN992 939)

Why, oh why did I have to pose like that??

Upwards, ever upwards

The infamous jaggy scree field up at the Pools of Dee.

Aviemore at last! (in the distance)

Enjoying the run down.

Dicing with death in Aviemore to get to the finish.
